| Duties: | DEFINITION
The Certified Nursing Assistant is a skilled person who performs direct patient care. This position cares for patients of all ages. Performs work of moderate difficulty in a variety of manual duties relating to the care of residents on an assigned shift. Certified Nursing Assistant is under the direction and supervision of a Licensed Nurse.
1. Current registration in the State of ________________ to practice as a Certified Nursing Assistant.
2. Documentation of good physical and emotional health.
3. One year of current experience required.
JOB KNOWLEDGE
Demonstrates the ability to give safe, effective care to patients in simple and complex situations under the supervision and direction of the Registered Professional Nurse or Licensed Vocational Nurse.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND AUTHORITIES
1. Knowledge of the scope and limitations of the practice of certified nursing assistant and personal conformance to these limits.
2. Maintaining a therapeutic and safe environment for patients assigned to his/her care.
3. Observing, recording and reporting information pertinent to the safe and effective care of the patients.
4. Maintaining current knowledge of the organization structure of the hospital and the nursing department to which assigned and the appropriate use of the channels of communication.
5. Developing effective interpersonal and intradepartmental relationships with the subordinates, peers, and superiors.
6. Demonstrating proper utilization of time, equipment, and supplies in the performance of his/her duties.
7. Maintaining a well-groomed physical appearance.
8. Maintaining competency by attending continuing education programs as per agency requirements and attend staff meeting as appropriate.
WORK PERFORMED
1. DIRECT CARE GIVEN
a. Provides quality-nursing care as described herein.
b. Receives and reports on assigned patients and their activities.
c. Help patient eat, dress, and bathe.
d. Answer patients’ call bells, deliver messages, serve meals, make beds, and keep patients’ rooms neat.
e. Set up equipment or store and move supplies.
f. Escort patients to operating and examining rooms.
g. May also provide skin care to patients.
h. Take patient’s temperatures, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure.
i. Help patient get in/out of bed and walk.
j. Assist/provide safe and effective care as directed by supervising registered nurse.
2. CARE PLANNING
a. Assist patient and family to understand and to comply with the nursing plan of care
3. ASSISTING WITH THE REHABILITATION OF PATIENTS ACCOURDING TO THE NURSING PLAN OF CARE THROUGH:
a. Awareness of and encouraging the interest and special aptitudes of patients.
b. Encouraging patients to help themselves within their own capabilities and limitations; in performing activities of daily living.
c. Knowledge and application of the principles of prevention of deformities; the normal range of motion; body mechanics and body alignment.
d. Utilizing the community resources and facilities for the continuing patient care.

| Qualifications: | QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION
1. Must be a graduate of an accredited program of certified nursing assistant.
2. Registered to practice in the state of Texas.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
1. Minimum one year - recent clinical/acute care experience required.
2. Successful completion of the specified orientation program for the agency nurses in the Facility assigned.
3. Validation of both a hospital orientation checklist and agency basic skills checklist. |
