| Duties: | WORK PERFORMED 1. DIRECT CARE GIVEN a) Provides quality-nursing care as described herein. b) Receives and reports on assigned patients and their activities. c) Makes nursing rounds and evaluates patient care on assigned patients. d) Assists with the coordination of nursing activities within the unit and also other departments. e) Makes rounds with and assists physicians. 2. BIO/PSYCHO/SOCIAL ASSESSMENTS a) Able to perform a head-to-toe physical assessment on assigned patients to identify and document path physiologic abnormalities appropriate to patients condition as it relates to medical and nursing diagnosis. b) Observes, documents and reports to appropriate personnel (RN/MD), in a timely manner, any changes in the patient's general physical or mental condition or sign and symptoms, which may be indicative of a change in the patients condition. 3. CARE PLANNING a) Completes admission-nursing history as delegated by the RN. b) Updates and contributes to the nursing plan of care under the supervision of an RN. c) Assists in providing pertinent, information to be utilized in the formation of nursing diagnosis on assigned patients. d) Participates in the identification of patient discharge needs and collaborates with RN for inclusion into discharge plan. e) Assists patient and family to understand and to comply with the nursing plan of care. f) Participates in teaching of procedures, disease process, tests and or procedures, safety and discharge procedure. 4. Providing for the emotional and physical comfort, teaching, and safety of patients under the guidance and supervision of the Registered Professional Nurse through: a) Understands human relationships between and among patients, families and personnel. b) Recognizes and understands cultural backgrounds, spiritual needs, and respects the religious belief of individual patients. c) Recognizes and understands the effects of social and economic problems upon patients. d) Protects patients from behavior that would damage their mental or physical health. e) Assisting the patient with activities of daily living and encouraging appropriate self-care. f) Considering needs of the patient for an attractive, comfortable and safe environment. 5. Performing nursing procedures for which education and experience has provided the necessary degree of skill and judgment, such as: a) Administration of selected medications and treatments prescribed for the patient. b) Preparation and care of patients receiving specialized treatments. c) Performance of special nursing techniques in caring for the patient with communicable diseases. 6. Assisting with the rehabilitation of patients according to the nursing plan of care through: a) Awareness of and encouraging the interest and special aptitudes of patients. b) Encouraging patients to help themselves within their own capabilities and limitations; in performing activities of daily living. c) Knowledge and application of the principles of prevention of deformities; the normal range of motion; body mechanics and body alignment. d) Utilizing the community resources and facilities for the continuing patient care. |
| Qualifications: | QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION 1. Must be a graduate of an accredited program of vocational nursing education. 2. Licensed to practice in the state of Texas TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE 1. Minimum one year-recent clinical experience required. 2. Successful completion of the specified orientation program for the agency nurses in the Institution assigned 3. Must complete the hospital orientation checklist, as well as the agency providing a basic skills checklist. JOB KNOWLEDGE Demonstrate the ability to give safe, effective care to patients in simple and complex situations under the supervision and direction of the Registered Professional Nurse. |
